Ten Day Bali Itinerary

We received daily emails requesting a suggested 10 Itinerary for a Bali Visit. I have created this link to help Bali travellers who want to know what is the ideal time to go to Bali and what to do when your there.

My answer is any time you can get to Bali GO! However Bali is a long way for most travellers so I suggest ideally 7-14 days.

Here is a suggested 10 day Itinerary. The cost depends upon what your budget is and what hotel you stay at. *Please note Bali Advisor can arrange transport and guides for our suggested outings.

Day 1
Arrive in Bali go to your hotel and immediately get a massage. I recommend going to the beach upon arrival in Bali. This gives you time to acclimate and get over jet lag. Which beach you ask. Depends upon your interests, budget and life style. 4 DAYS

Nusa Dua Beach  http://www.baliadvisor.com/nusa-dua.html ½ from the airport  The Nusa Dua area isolated from the rest of the island is at the Eastern side of the Bukit Peninsula at Southern tip of Bali. The beaches are beautiful long white sand and safe for swimming and the hotels are among the best in Bali. Nusa Dua is very secure as there are 3 man gates checking ID's of anyone entering the area. I prefer this area if you are bringing children to Bali. Water sports activities are plentiful here from diving, snorkeling, fishing, banana boat riding and parasailing

Sanur Beach http://www.baliadvisor.com/sanur-beach.html  ½ hour from the airport Sheltered by a coral reef, the grand mountains of central Bali compose a superb view east

across the bay. The yellow sand beach is safe and numerous water sports - swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, outrigger sailing and windsurfing - are available.

Kuta Beach http://www.baliadvisor.com/kuta-beach.html  45minutes from the airport from airport but traffic can be slower. The popular holiday areas of Kuta, Tuban (south Kuta) and Legian front a gentle curve of coastline just north of the airport. These beaches are among the most beautiful in Bali, famous for great waves, sunsets, and night life. These beaches are for the younger and more active tourist who come to Bali to party.
Seminyak and Canggu  http://www.baliadvisor.com/seminyak.html 45minutes to 1 hour from the airport (depends upon time of day) Seminyak is like the Beverley Hills of Bali with mostly upscale and luxury accommodation and fashionable high-end restaurants and bars. It is famous for great waves and stunning sunsets. If you like style and luxury and like to be in with the fashion and in crowd this beach is perfect for you.

NOW YOU HAVE YOUR HOME BASED PICKED OUT FOR THE FIRST 4 NIGHTS  HERE ARE SOME ACTIVITIES THAT YOU CAN DO FROM YOUR HOTEL WHEN NOT ON THE BEACH OR IN THE SPA

Day 2
I recommend relaxing at the hotel pool and beach and spa. Spa  http://www.baliadvisor.com/bali-spas.html Your hotel will probably have a spa but some can be expensive. If you want the Spa experience but not pay the hotel prices I recommend Bali Orchid Spa http://www.baliorchidspa.com/english/index-en.html  They will pick you up at your hotel.

Day 3
Snorkel trip to Nusa Lembongan  http://www.baliadvisor.com/scuba-diving.html These two islands just off Bali's east coast offer drift-diving in mild to strong currents. The water is cold but often startlingly clear, with gorgeous corals, prolific fish, some turtles, reef sharks and, from July to mid-November, Mola-Mola (Ocean sunfish).

Day 4
Visit Tanah Lot Temple http://www.baliadvisor.com/must-see-in-bali.html  The temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide Go at sunset to see the beautiful sunset. This temple is 1hour and ½ from Nusa Dua and Sanur Beach and 1 Hour from Kuta and Legian beach and 45 minutes from Seminyak and Canggu. Or Horseback Riding http://www.baliadvisor.com/horseback-riding.html We highly recommend Island Horse as the best and only horseback riding company in Bali that meets our standards. Their stables are located on the near the quiet Seaside village of Yeh Gangga, just west of the most photographed and sacred temples in Bali called Tanah Lot.

These are just a few island activities that you can enjoy from which ever beach you choose. Remember to take some time slow down and enjoy the beach.
Day 5
Move to Ubud
Unless your devoted to the beach I suggest you spend 4 nights in Ubud, the cultural center of Bali. Ubud is now one of the major tourist destinations in Bali. Ubud is 1 hour and 30 minutes from the airport. It is the epicenter for music and dance and a mecca for dining and shopping is the cultural center of Bali. It is the epicenter for music and dance and a mecca for dining and shopping.

Finding a hotel. See our Ubud hotel http://www.baliadvisor.com/hotels-ubud.html  page for accommodations in Ubud. Accommodations in Ubud range from Luxury Villas http://www.baliadvisor.com/villas-ubud.html  to  Home stays http://www.murnis.com/houses/houses.htm . We will be glad to assist you in choosing your place to stay

Day6
Ubud Market place: Early morning visit to see the market over flow with sellers and buyers and in the afternoon visit the Monkey Forest: The Monkey Forest of Ubud is a very sacred Balinese Hindu site with a Balinese temple. One of the most popular tourist spots in Ubud

Day7
Central Bali’s Water temples and ancient ruins  http://www.baliadvisor.com/pdf/CENTRAL-BALI-WATER-TEMPLES-ANCIENT-RUINS.pdf  If you are interested in Bali’s temples and culture I highly suggesting taking this tour .  or if you’re into  more adventure Rafting http://www.baliadvisor.com/rafting.html  Volcano Climbing http://www.baliadvisor.com/volcano-climbing.html and Biking http://www.baliadvisor.com/bike-bali.html are tours that you can take from Ubud.

Day 8
Walks http://www.baliadvisor.com/trekking-birdwatching.html in the Ubud area are some of my favorite in Bali. That eve go to a Balinese dance performance Balinese Dance performance http://www.baliadvisor.com/bali-dance-music.html  The core of Balinese culture is dance and drama, which is traditionally performed during temple festivals, however every night there is a dance performance almost every night in Bali. My favorite group is Gamelan Semara Ratih http://www.semararatih.org/

Day 9
Return to the beach for your last night. Its always nice to return to the beach for your last night in Bali and have a romantic dinner on the beach.  To mix it up I would suggest staying at a different beach than the one you first stayed at. See Above

Day 10
Final Passage at your hotel before going home

  5. I first went to Bali in 1979 and have been a regular visitor since, possibly 50+ trips, not always spending a lot of time there, sometimes just transiting for a few days.
The key to enjoyment in Bali is to be mobile, either have a hire car or motorcycle, International Driving permit required, and buy a good map of the island. Spend little time in Kuta unless you're an idiot who only wants to get drunk somewhere other than at home. It has all the services tourists want, but a large number of those tourists are idiots who never leave the 'Kuta strip'.
My itinerary for a first time visitor would be, assuming you arrive afternoon/evening, and the next day is Day 1.
Day 1 in and around Kuta, dinner at Poppies
Day 2 in and around Kuta, Lunch at Made's Warung
Day 3, hire car, and drive via Tanah Lot, Tabanan, and stay overnight at Sanda Villas (google)
Day 4 On to Lovina Beach, Aditya Beach Bungalows are a good medium priced place to stay (I remember them from when they were a few bamboo shacks in 1979) Visit Hot Springs
Day 5 Around Lovina, Earlhy morning dolphin spotting
Day 6 Around Lovina/Singaraja, Git Git Waterfall
Day 7,Leave for Bedugul, stay at Enjung Beji on the lake, see the lake temple, visit the market, botanical gardens.
Day 8 Leave for Ubud, arond Ubud, Balinese dance if you'd like to see traditional dancing. Hustlers sell tickets on the streets.
Day 9 Around Ubud, great market opposite the old palace, superb restaurants, Blanco's gallery.
Day 9, On to Kintamani, visit the Bali Aga burial ground across the lake, stay at a hotel right down in the crater on the lake, bathe in the sulphur rich steaming hot volcanic springs.
Day 10 Leave for Candidasa, and visit Elephant Caves, and Besakih (the mother temple) enroute, time permitting. Stay in a hotel right on the beach.
Day 11 Return to Kuta, and depending on what time you have left, one or two days in Kuta/Denpasar. The Denpasar Market is well worth visit.
    Leave for home.
    A few tips:
Beware the 'funny money' money changers, and change at reputable dealers only, PT Central Kuta has offices everywhere, and there is one right at Bemo Corner Dirgahaya ?? (opposite the Indian Restaurant). Bot give good rates. Change enough for your travels before leaving Kuta because rates can be heavily discounted elsewhere. Ubud is not so bad.
Try Masakan Padang, the cuisine of Padang in Sumatra. They are the shops with the array of huge china dishes in the window.
Carry most of your money, T/C's, valuables in a money belt UNDER your clothes, and enough for the day in a neck pouch.
You're more likely to lose money/valuable through stealth rather than violence.
If you choose not to drive, a car and driver can be had for about $40-45 a day, including petrol, and his overnights and meals,so if three travel, quite cheap. Also, you avoid the police hassling you for perceived petty offences, not common nowadays, but it still happens.
    Enjoy your Bali holiday/vacation.
